Construction Unions Use Government to Monopolize Silicon Valley Public Works Contracts
Unions are demanding Project Labor Agreements for construction projects in the City of San Jose and County of Santa Clara. On January 23, 2017, a representative of the Coalition for Fair Employment in Construction was at the first meeting of the City of San Jose's Community Workforce Agreements/Project Labor Agreement (CWA/PLA) Task Force. He spoke against a Project Labor Agreement proposed for future city contracts.

Meanwhile, on January 24, 2017 the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a policy to require construction contractors for the next five years to sign a standard Project Labor Agreement to work on projects costing more than $2 million.
